A. PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
This programme is designed to provide participants with practical and technical skills in handcrafted footwear production. The training covers the full process, from design development through to final assembly.
1. Introduction to Footwear
General knowledge of footwear and styles (Derby, Oxford, etc.)
Sizing systems: UK / US / European (French system)
Practical sessions:
Foot measurement
Shoe last measurement
Last adjustment and fitting
Shoe last taping
2. Designing
Selection of footwear design
Sketching and technical drawing
Basic shell pattern
Pattern development (pattern cutting)
Pattern filling and documentation
3. Cutting and Stitching
Introduction to tools and sewing machines
Basic machine operation:
Thread winding and replacement
Needle installation
Straight stitching
Curved stitching
Decorative stitching techniques
Material handling:
Drawing and cutting upper and bottom materials
Leather skiving
Edge folding techniques
Upper stitching process according to workflow
4. Lasting and Assembling
Selection and cutting of outsole materials
Insole preparation
Installation of toe puff and stiffener
Lasting upper onto the shoe last
Grinding (upper and sole preparation)
Adhesive application techniques
Chemical handling in lasting and assembly
Sole attachment and pressing
Outlasting process
